Photograms

Before my first photography class I had no idea what a photogram was but now having seen many examples how others express themselves through this form of art I am very excited to create my own.  A couple of select photograms stood out to me while I was researching examples.  Such as, one photogram I saw that depicted a man and a woman kissing.  I found this so interesting because the photogram was not only black and white but many different shades of gray as well.  For example, the hands of the couple were white as you could see them placed on the face of the other person while the faces of the couple were gray.  In my opinion, this enhanced the picture and is something that I want to include in my own photogram.  Another photogram that caught my attention was a depiction of the ocean floor as the sun was streaming through the water above.  The element I found to be the most intriguing about this image was the addition of the sun streaming through the water.  The abstract pattern seemed rather difficult to include but brought even more depth to the art.  Furthermore, a photogram of a cassette tape caught my attention. It was rather simple but it portrayed to me the importance and novelty of a pastime such as this one.  It was so simple yet so complex all at the same time making it all the more special.
